Drawing with Scissors for National Drawing Day 2022 – Centre for Contemporary Art, Derry ~ Londonderry
For National Drawing Day this year on Saturday 21 May, 2022 CCA invites painter Hannah Casey-Brogan to design a drawing activity Drawing with Scissors: Make your own ‘cut-out’ artwork!
This activity is based on a recent cut-out artwork by Hannah Casey-Brogan currently on display as part of BLUE SMOKE at the Naughton Gallery, Queen's University Belfast. Made from cut up paintings and drawings, heat burst is full of geographical references.
“Hannah has produced pages of shapes that you can use to make your own 'cut-out'. You can download and print your own sheets at home. Click on the images below to open up downloadable files. You can also pick up sheets on Saturday 21 May from CCA. You can even use the designs as a rough guide for your own shapes!
Simply colour them in, cut them out, and arrange in any way you like! Henri Matisse is seen as the inventor of the medium, and he made the most famous cut-outs by ‘carving into colour’. Looking at the Matisse cut-outs is a great starting point for inspiration and shows the endless possibilities of this technique! Make sure to tag your creations @CCADLD and #nationaldrawingday”
